Our professional, competition-level taxi dancers are carefully selected for their skill and personality.
Ivan
Ivan Rubio is a teacher and choreographer specializing in Tango Salon and Tango Stage. He has performed exhibitions, taught classes, danced in stage productions, and participated as a taxi dancer at international festivals, theaters, milongas, and various cultural venues in Mexico, Colombia, Canada, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Hungary. He has shared the stage with renowned orchestras and internationally recognized dancers. He has built a distinguished competitive career in Tango Salon, Tango Stage, Milonga, and Vals, achieving podium placements and recognitions in Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina He also has experience directing dance companies and creating stage productions. He is currently the director of Tango Bravo and the stage production Vals de la Memoria, a performance that combines dance and theater. In addition, he has experience organizing events dedicated to the promotion and diffusion of tango, including milongas, practice sessions, and the first tango festival in his city: FestiTango Morelia, as well as other event formats held in different cities across Mexico.
Claudio
Claudio Cortes is an Associate Professor at a medical school who views tango as a transformative art form fostering connection, musicality, self-expression, and community. Trained by renowned maestros including Suyay Quiroga, Ruth Hernandez, Fabián Peralta and Josefina Bermudez, and Marcela Durán, Claudio has developed a deeply expressive and musical approach to the dance. Since 2020, Claudio has shared his love of tango through teaching and assisting workshops across the United States, inspiring dancers to connect more deeply with the music, their partners, and the spirit of tango. More recently, semifinalist at milongeros del mundo Buenos Aires 2025, and he earned 2nd place in both Pro-Am and Jack & Jill at the 2026 SoCal Tango Championship 2026. ATUSA finalist, he has placed 4th in Tango Pista (2025 and 2026), 2nd in Vals (2026), and 2nd in Milonga (2020).
Fernando
Back at WCTF by popular demand, Fernando is a tango dancer and teacher from Monterrey, Mexico. He has competed around the world, with highlights including: Champion of the Bajio Tango Championship 2023, 2nd place SoCal 2025 (Jack & Jill), and Champion of Tango Regio Festival 2018. He has also competed in the Buenos Aires Worldwide Tango Championship. Forget complicated moves – Fernando is all about enjoying the music and creating a lovely connection in a comfortable embrace. Expect a stable, creative, and playful dance that often leaves dancers feeling like they’ve shared a warm embrace with a long-time friend – and definitely a tanda to remember! Fernando brings elegance, technique, musicality, and creativity to every dance, offering an honest and respectful embrace for dancers of all levels. He is looking forward to meeting you on the dance floor for some beautiful tandas!
Chema
Chema Pandal is a milonguero, tango DJ (TDJ), and teacher from Mexico City. He was the runner-up at the Mexico City National Tango Festival in 2013, competing as a follower. A well-known producer and organizer throughout many states of Mexico, Chema frequently travels to Colombia and Buenos Aires in search of authentic and inspiring tango experiences. Passionate not only about tango culture but also about South American artistic expression, he brings cheerful energy, musicality, and connection to every dance floor.
Luz
Luz Vargas is a tango dancer and teacher from Monterrey, Mexico, and co-founder of the tango shoe brand Relevé. She has cultivated her dance by learning from renowned maestros and embracing the milongas in Mexico, Argentina, and the US. As a teacher, her goal is helping students build solid bases, enhance their abilities, and own their tango. A champion at Bajío Tango 2023 and Tango Regio 2018—and a SoCal Tango Championship 2025 finalist— Luz also participated in the 2023 Mundial de Tango. She has performed in events like Holiday Tango Weekend in Dallas and Immersive Tango in Buenos Aires. Her style blends technique, musicality, playfulness, and active partner communication. Whether you are new to tango or a seasoned dancer, Luz is happy to assist you during festival classes, and looks forward to sharing lovely tandas that feel honest and mutually created.
Martin
Martin Enos has been dancing tango since 2010 and teaching for over a decade. He possesses an effervescent creativity that keeps his partners fascinated and delighted. He believes that communication is the essence of tango. He encourages each dancer to work rigorously on their individual technique in order to develop both their own style and their ability to connect and communicate with a variety of partners. Martin’s teaching and dance focus on understanding and developing functional movement. He aims to help students tap into their creativity and ability to improvise, even as beginners. On the dance floor, his goal is to listen to his partners, try to understand where their comforts are, and attempt to accentuate their natural movements with fluid variations that will contribute to creating a unique experience together, every time you join him in embrace. Don’t take our word for it! Take a whirl with him to find out for yourself. He dances both roles and welcomes taxiing for leaders, followers, and switch dancers.
